    Theories to Influence the Future of Learning Design and Technology

    Theory Spotlight Competition 2022

    Table of Contents

    This volume presents five finalist papers from the second annual Theory Spotlight Competition hosted by the Research and Theory Division at the 2022 AECT International Convention. It features learning and design technology (LDT) theories and frameworks useful in design practice and research. Each chapter presents the authors’ proposed theory and examples of its application. Recorded presentations from the competition are also available with each paper.
    Bohdana Allman
    Bohdana Allman is an educator, researcher, and learning experience designer. Her work focuses on designing and implementing online collaborative teacher professional development grounded in sociocultural principles and communities of practice. Her research interests include actively engaging learners from diverse backgrounds, facilitating close collaboration and dialogue within professional communities, integrating learning with practice, and fostering reflection.
    Heather Leary

    Brigham Young University

    Heather Leary is an Associate Professor of Instructional Psychology & Technology at Brigham Young University. Her research focuses on tackling problems of practice in K12 and higher education using innovative approaches and technologies. Her research bridges research and practice in science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and 21st-century skills, using design-based research, problem-based learning, and research-practice partnerships. She focuses on building K12 teachers’ knowledge, capacity, and design capabilities through professional learning opportunities and how that translates to classroom enactment.

    Royce Kimmons

    Brigham Young University

    Royce Kimmons is an Associate Professor of Instructional Psychology and Technology at Brigham Young University where he studies digital participation divides specifically in the realms of social media, open education, and classroom technology use.
